Stabilization and Solidification Technology

Metal mercury that was collected from wastes has been recycled for mercury-added products such as fluorescent lamps, sphygmomanometers, regents and for chlor-alkali production facilities. However due to the Minamata Convention on mercury that regulates use of mercury internationally, countries will have to make efforts to stop using mercury. As a result, there will inevitably be surplus mercury and stabilization and solidification technology will be required as safe, long term solutions to dispose surplus mercury.
Stabilization using sulfur and solidification are considered to be acceptable methods to dispose metal mercury. Nomura Kohsan has launched this method at a commercialization scale.
Nomura Kohsan is determined to provide mercury treatment know-how and technologies to the world and contribute to an environmentally sound management of mercury wastes.
